In other types of diabetic retinopathy, blood vessels can begin to multiply and actually grow over the retina. These blood vessels are extremely thin and weak, and will ultimately leak fluid into the eye. Advanced symptoms can include pain in the eye, blurred vision, or an increase in the number of floaters. Treatment options can include medicine, laser treatment, or surgery.
